John Frazer crafts this Shiraz exclusively from a small block of vines on the family estate in the esteemed Wilyabrup region of Margaret River. This is the only still wine that John makes, mainly for his personal enjoyment and to share amongst friends!
The quality of the fruit shines through every aspect of this wine, from the rich cherry and plum aromas, through to the refined mid-palate - rich but elegant, displaying soft, generous fruit flavours complemented by notes of pepper and spice. Structurally refined it is built around unobtrusive fine tannins yielding a long, clean finish with the bright fruit flavours lingering to the end.
‘Made entirely from estate-grown fruit, this Shiraz is the only still wine that John Frazer makes – and it’s an absolute cracker! Beautiful, bright red berry aromas on the nose, with subtle hints of spice, the palate is deliciously smooth and silky, cherry and cranberry red fruit notes, well-integrated and velvety tannins, all brought together with some juicy acidity in a lovely long finish.’
AWARDS & REVIEWS:
THE WINE PILOT - Tony Love - 93 points
"From a small estate block in the renowned Willyabrup district of Margaret River, this Shiraz is a willing example of how southern rusticity can also offer a cool-climate style elegance in the variety. It wafts with a demonstrative earthy, minerality, gamey aromatic vibe, plenty of thyme and sage herbal suggestions, white pepper as well, all slipping easily into the palate to join a crimson cherry flavour line, tempered by a subtle, salivating, gastronomic bitterness in the finish. Nasal and palate aromatics rule this tidy expression of Shiraz – it’s a ripping partner with pizza and pasta, and loves a hit of chilli along the way." (June 2024)
THE WINE PILOT - Emma Farrelly
"This is made from estate grown fruit in Wilyabrup by John Frazer – the master of sparkling wine making in Western Australia. It appears he has no problems making still wine either with this Shiraz showing bright, lifted jubey red fruits, wild cherry and delicate spice. Juicy and expressive with fine silky tannins and a lick of refreshing acidity, this wine convinces the drinker that Margaret River Shiraz is finding it’s comfortable place in the world." (May 2024)
