John Frazer and Jan Woods...where Frazer Woods Wines began.
In 1985 at the Vasse Hotel, his local watering hole, a timely opportunity and spur of the moment decision saw John and his wife Jan Woods, purchase a Willyabrup property.
Hand-in-hand the two of them set out to transform the site which comprised of bushland, a shack, no electricity and a single paddock. Come 1996 they realised their dream and planted the first vines, with the inaugural vintage being bottled in 1998.
An electrician by trade, John is perhaps one of the most unlikely winemakers of the Margaret River Wine Region.
Around the time of purchasing the property John met Harold Osborne, when John was doing some work for David Hohnen (Cape Mentelle). Harold was from California and crafting sparkling wines for Pelorus (Cloudy Bay). Harold taught John everything he knew and mentored him from being a sparky to a Sparkling Winemaker. His passion for all things Méthode Traditionnelle was born.
John, a tinker-er and equipment fixer long before he showed his hands as the author of the region's sparkling chronicles.
Jan, a bright and organised commander – the glue holding the entire operation together.
Together, not only have they raised a beautiful family of three sons, John and Jan have built a sparkling world of wine and wonder.
